History
In 1995, the Cascadia Counselling Clinic began by promoting and facilitating anger management groups for both men and women. At the same time, we offered Counselling Services to individuals, couples and families particularly in the area of managing escalating situations.
As our knowledge and experience grew, we were offered the opportunity to develop two programs for the Province of British Columbia’s correctional system: the Violence Prevention Program (VPP) and the Substance Abuse Management Program (SAM). This led to the creation of our second division, Program Development and Training. The structure and content of the two provincial programs that we wrote were based on the research of six internationally recognized Canadian psychologists who had discovered the most effective ways to mitigate violent behaviour. Researching, writing and training others to facilitate these provincial programs accelerated our learning about what was and was not effective in addressing highly conflictual situations.
We applied this knowledge in our counselling clinic and over time became known as an organization that could help people understand why they were emotionally escalating and what might be of help to change this. This expertise led to additional program development opportunities including authoring the Managing Angry Moments Program (MAM) for the Department of National Defence.
Workplaces also began to inquire if we could be of assistance when there were challenging employee, management and leadership situations. We had invitations to address issues including bullying, under-functioning employees, addictions and low morale. This led to the creation of our third division Consulting. In this division, we have worked with federal government departments, provincial ministries and crown corporations, public and private schools, First Nations organizations and non-profit societies.
In addition to our consulting services, we have authored and taught programs in effective team-building, personally effective leadership, and workplace communication. Like the counselling division, creating and facilitating programs combined with service delivery became an effective way to help our clients.
Moving into our third decade, Cascadia continues to be committed to providing the highest quality service, informed by industry best practices and ethical guidelines. We do this in a warm and caring manner. We also have learned the importance of consulting with other professionals, as this often surfaces unique and innovative solutions. We look forward to working with you.
